The Belarusian State University (BSU) is the leading institution of higher education in the Republic of Belarus founded in 1921.

BSU is a major educational, scientific, innovation and cultural centre of the Republic of Belarus. According to most authoritative world rankings BSU is reckoned among 1% of the top universities of the world.

The university comprises faculties and educational institutions, research institutes and centres, manufacturing enterprises, and a Science and Technology Park.

BSU is the principal executing organization in many of the state research programs and state scientific and technical programs.

The BSU scientists hold leading positions in the country by the number of articles published in Scopus and Web of Science databases, while the BSU Electronic Library is ranked second among the world's best open access university repositories according to Transparent Ranking: Institutional Repositories by Google Scholar.

The results of scientific research conducted at the university are the basis for solving major science and technology issues.

BSU is especially proud of its achievements in aerospace field.

For several decades, BSU has been participating in space research aboard the International Space Station. The scientific equipment developed and manufactured at A.N. Sevchenko Institute of Applied Physical Problems of BSU is operating at the Russian segment of the ISS.

In 2023, the second BSU nanosatellite BSUSat-2 was launched into orbit from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia. The whole cycle of assembly, debugging, testing and operation of the spacecraft was carried out by the university staff and students.

BSU contributes meaningfully to solving problems of high-energy physics.Within the CMS and ATLAS collaborations, the scientists of the Institute for Nuclear Problems of BSU have made an important contribution to the discovery of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

The Institute for Nuclear Problems of BSU has been actively involved in the NICA mega-science project. For the first time in Belarus, a prototype of a superconducting half-wave accelerating resonator was manufactured and tested in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Russian scientific organizations.

A wide range of scientific and educational equipment for higher education institutions and scientific organizations have been developed. The assortment of equipment is constantly updated. One of the most high-demand developments is a laser complex for optical manipulation of microobjects.

To meet the needs of agriculture, the BSU scientists have developed biological bacteria-based preparations for protection and regulation of plant growth that provide a significant increase in vegetable yields.

Another innovation for agriculture is innovative veterinary medicinal products for cattle, horses and pets, which have simultaneously immunomodulatory,antiviral and antibacterial activity and allow for excluding or reducing the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry.

Chemical scientists have developed various formulations and technologies for production of detergents with disinfecting properties.

The scientific developments of BSU are widely used in medicine.

All oncological institutions of our country use original medicinal products for local chemotherapy produced by the Unitary Enterprise UNITEHPROM BSU. The enterprise has opened a modernized production room for manufacturing of medicinal products equipped in compliance with the international quality standards of GMP.

The spirometers produced by UNITEHPROM BSU are used for assessment of human respiratory system by medical institutions of Belarus and other countries.

For the needs of industry, several dozen types of complex technological equipment for production of products from elastic, integral and rigid polyurethane foam have been developed and manufactured.

Thus, the Belarusian State University fully implements the research and innovation chain: fundamental and applied research, management and production, sale and promotion of scientific and technical products. At the same time, scientific research at BSU is inseparably linked with the educational process, which allows the university to graduate highly qualified specialists proficient in modern methods of solving scientific and engineering tasks.
